13 Jun Celebrating Dad This Father’s Day
Father’s Day is around the corner and it is time to celebrate all of the wonderful fathers, father figures, and male mentors out there!
Did you know that Fathers Day began over 100 years ago in 1910 when a young woman, Sonora Smart Dodd was listening to a Mother’s Day sermon at her church and she decided she wanted a day to celebrate her Civil War veteran and single father of 6? Later, Woodrow Wilson and Lyndon Johnson tried to make it a national holiday and Nixon signed it into law in 1972.
Charleston has loads of fun ways to spend Father’s Day with your amazing Dads. You can get out on the water, head to the beach, go to brunch, paddleboard, kayak, surf….there are endless possibilities! We at Occasions Guide have come up with a few of our favorite ideas to help you honor Dad this Sunday.
Many Dads LOVE a day of golf. The whole family can go or send him out with a few other Dad buddies for a few rounds before dinner. We love The Coosaw Creek Country Club, Palmetto Golf Club and Wild Dunes for a fun day out.
Another outing that Dad may like is wine tasting at Deepwater Vineyards. You can either do a self guided tour or private tastings. A really fun day is their guided “Tipsy Tour. Check out all of their tours at www.seaislandtours.com.
If the kids want a really special day out with Dad, we suggest the one and only Frankie’s Fun Park! Start at the driving range with a basket of balls, go-cart together, hit the bumper boats, and challenge each other at the arcade – fun for the whole family!
Afterwards, head to Leon’s Oyster Shop for the best oysters and fried chicken in town. Dad will love their frozen gin and tonic after such a love and fun filled day.
