06 May PARTY FAVORS
Who doesn’t like a present? Even the smallest, most inexpensive gift if its given with thought and love is a joy to cherish. We LOVE party favors! There is nothing better than taking home a personalized treat (if possible personalize the gift with a name tag) to remember a wonderful party, meal, get together. They don’t have to be elaborate – it might be as simple as the recipe for Aunt Charlotte’s lemon bars creatively printed and presented – preferably with some of those lemon bars or it might be more substantial such as a kitchen or bar tool or a small plant. The lowcountry is blessed with hundreds of local food and beverage items that make great take home presents. Even a simple perfect sand dollar wrapped in a box makes a great takeaway for inland visitors. Here are some of our favorites to inspire you –
Cuba is HOT, HOT, HOT and what better way to celebrate being able to visit now than with a Cuban themed dinner party. Practice making the perfect Mojito, a Hemingway favorite, and then enable your guests to return the favor at their Casa by giving them a wooden mint muddler.
Small scented candles. You can even personalize the top with the date of the event – shower- engagement party- birthday party, etc.
No matter what is served and how much you eat at a party, most people still carve something sweet when they get home. These pretty-in-pink store bought macaroons make a lovely favor especially for a baby shower – but homemade treats are just as appreciated.
Mason jars filled homemade boozy treats are always appreciated. You can also fill them with jellybeans or chocolate covered espresso beans, etc.
A customized printed tag with the event and thanks for attending printed on it.
Local honey is all the rage. Not only is it nature’s health food – it looks so attractive packaged up in a lovely glass jar with a honey swizzle stick and a personalized tag with a cute note like “Sweet as Honey”. It will be put to good use the next morning with toast and tea.
You don’t need to bake for days. A single cookie, mini pie or tart will suffice if you get a little creative with the package presentation. Use a plain box but spruce it up with some colored ribbon, a personalized message and colored tissue. Including the recipe also makes it a special and lasting treat.
Having your charity committee over for a meeting? Show them your appreciation with a handmade treat and a personalized Thank You tag. You can customize the tag for whatever reason you are getting together or celebrating. Try utilizing fresh foods that are in season.
If you are having a large gathering you may skip the personalized name tags and make a pleasant presentation that conveys the items are take away presents. Succulents are hot right now, small planted seedlings, mini cupcakes, small wrapped packages of sweet treats, etc. can also be used.
Boozy treats can be elaborate, such as the one pictured with all the ingredients (including a mini shaker) to make a martini and a clever tag saying “A Tini Thanx”, or they may include a single mini bottle and your favorite drink recipe – think Dark N’ Stormy’s with a mini of Gosling’s Rum. Charleston is also spoilt for micro brewing and local distilleries – Firefly, Striped Pig, Holy City Brewing, etc. bottles of which make a great gift especially for out-of-towners.
Remember, clever, creative and personalized presentation, rather than cost, goes a long way to being memorable.
